The Felmersham & Radwell Parish Plan - 2006
Landscape and Wildlife

The Parish is situated within a loop of the River Great Ouse and therefore enjoys a variety of landscape and wildlife. The gravel pits and Nature Reserve bounding the Parish afford opportunities for observing wildlife. From the survey, it was evident that the majority of residents wish to preserve the rural nature of the Parish and the green areas within it.

Issue

Background Action Partners
Desire to see new accessible wildlife habitats established

This issue was highlighted during the consultation period as a major contributor to improving and sustaining the quality of life within the Parish.

More than half of respondents thought the Parish would benefit from the establishment of new wildlife habitats with public access in the form of woodland/copses or a wildflower meadow.  Just under half of respondents wanted a pond.

Many respondents to the Questionnaire cited this type of activity as being a suitable use of some of the legacy bequeathed to the community by the late Margaret Alleway.

Conduct feasibility study.

General appearance of the villages and their approaches

The majority of parishioners wanted roadsides kept litter-free, protected from vehicle damage and mown as now although a considerable number wanted them managed for wildlife.

Nearly half of respondents were in favour of more tree-planting.

Just under a third would like to have ‘welcoming’ village signs erected.

These wishes should be communicated to Highways (County Council) to ensure the verges were continued to be managed for the welfare of wildlife wherever it was safe to do so.

Investigate opportunities for tree planting.

Investigate feasibility and cost of providing village signs and consult parishioners further.
