Issue

Background Action Partners
Lack of employment opportunity in the Parish There are few opportunities for employment in the Parish other than self employment.

Research during the consultation period suggested potential employment opportunities in the shape of tourism, small business development or small-scale industrial workshops.

Tourism Although a quarter of respondents had no opinion, the remainder was fairly evenly divided over whether tourism should be encouraged.  Most tourists and fishers arrive by car and the lack of car-parking facilities near the river and St Mary’s church has been highlighted together with the damage done to verges and Jubilee Lawn by vehicles.  Although both The Sun and The Swan are available for refreshments and toilet facilities, the lack of public toilet facilities and more general refreshment venues is also a problem.    The Parish Council should note these findings and use the outcome to formulate their position with regard to these issues.

Small business development Over half of respondents were in favour of small business development.  Redundant farm buildings were mentioned as suitable sites as was the provision of homes with office facilities. Ensure that any potential development conforms to the findings.
