Sheila Ann Juffs 1937 - 2001
A Thanksgiving Service was held at St Mary's church on 1 November 2001
for the life of Shelia Juffs. Sheila was publican at the Plough for many
years and during her time there she created a community spirit within the
pub organising quizzes, skittle and dart matches. When the pub closed in
1991 Sheila moved to live in the Rushden area.
Norman Wildman 1932 - 2001
The funeral service for Norman Wildman was held at St Mary’s church on
Friday 21 September 2001. He was 69 years old.
For the past 38 years Norman lived in Radwell and had been involved with
the Felmersham Table Tennis Club and in latter years until his death, he
was a co-coordinator for the parish Community Care Scheme. For over 30 years
he was a Scout Leader for the 1st Rushden St. Mary’s Scout Troop. He
also spent some years as Scout leader for the Sharnbrook Troop and was a
founder member and player for the Rushden & Higham Rugby Club.
Before his early retirement, due to ill health, Norman worked as a Company
accountant in Bedford. Despite his many recent health problems he always
soldiered on very bravely. Norman leaves a widow and two sons.
Edna Alice Ashpole née
Hall 1914 - 2001
Edna attended the village school in Pavenham and left school at the age of
14. She immediately entered domestic service for Mrs. Hockliffe at Dale
Cottage, Pavenham. Over the next 11 years she had a variety of domestic
jobs both in Pavenham and Bedford. On the 2 December 1939 she married a
widower who was the chauffer/gardener at Dale Cottage. She had three
children. In 1973 she moved to 3 Church End, Felmersham and regularly
helped Sheila Juffs behind the bar at the Plough. Edna was well known and
liked within the community.
John Britton 1917 - 2001
Colonel Britton spent his retirement from the army living at Thursday's
Farm, Radwell with his wife Nina where he followed his hobby of gardening.
He saw active service during the Second World War, Palestine and the Suez
Crises.
Kathleen M Lovell
1915

On Tuesday 26 June 2001 Kathleen Lovell passed away at Avenue House, Rushden. Born in Felmersham in 1915 Kathleen Paine married Sid Lovell in
1937 and they were landlords at the Sun from 1951 to 1974. Kath lived in Felmersham all her life and spent her retirement living in a cottage in
the Row where she was an avid reader of books.
Kath had strong family links
with Felmersham, her grandmother was the cook at the Grange for the
Green
family and her uncle, Joseph Paine, was killed in the first world war.

David James Henry Knowles |

David died
peacefully at home in Felmersham on Thursday 15 March 2001. Much loved husband of Jennifer, father,
of Louise and Richard and devoted grandfather of Amy. Only son of the late
Sydney and Doris Knowles of Worfield, Shropshire. He was loved
and respected by all whose lives he touched, for his courtesy and good
humour.
David started his working life as a school teacher progressing to head
teacher and finally finishing his career as North Bedfordshire Education
Officer. He was a Rotarian, a member of the MCC, served on both the Harpur
Trust main and grants committees. Vice chairman of Dame Alice and a member
of the Citizen Housing Committee.
David will be remembered in our community as a former churchwarden, a
former chairman of both the Parish Council and Pinchmill School governors.
He was a serving member of the PCC and regularly attended church. Those
who knew him admired his ability to articulate with eloquence whatever the
occasion. He was loved and respected by all whose lives he touched, for
his courtesy and good humour, and he will be sadly missed.
